Metaphorically Speaking

I am wondering if any of the English language learners out there are familiar with using Metaphor and Simile in English?  One of the UK's most famous poets (Shakespeare) used metaphors all the time and you can find metaphor in most contemporary song lyrics. There is an extremely interesting TED Talk about this subject which I have included below.
