overall vs in common

Hi everyone!

When talking about linkers, does 'overall' mean the same as 'in common'.
I'm asking this to know what to write in IELTS Academic examination. Is it possible to use 'in common' instead of 'overall' in the example below?

"Overall, it is clear that Europe suffered more from farmland degradation than the others regions, and the main causes there were deforestation and over-cultivation."
