How to Keep Your New Year's Resolution
2018 has arrived and the tradition of making New Year's resolutions is upon us once again. A survey by the Statistic Brain Research Institute found that only 8% of people achieve their New Year's resolution. So here's a few tips to help you stick to your goals in 2018.
Keep it simple. Stay away from vague resolutions like "I'm going to have more fun". If you set a simple, measurable target, like saving a specific sum of money, or losing a specific amount of weight, you will have a clear goal to work towards.
Be realistic. There's no point in setting a goal which is impossible to achieve. Even if you have a more ambitious long term goal, setting a smaller one that starts the ball rolling will be less intimidating, and easier to stick to. Once you have achieved your smaller goal, you can set a bigger one the following year.
Talk about it. Tell people what your New Year's resolution is, and keep them updated on your progress. It's easier to give up if no one knows you're trying in the first place. But if you let your friends and family know what you're working towards, they can encourage you and keep you honest.
Don't give up! Just because you make one mistake doesn't mean you've blown the whole year. If you give in to temptation and eat that extra slice of chocolate cake, don't get discouraged or depressed – just do better next time.
