Mid-Autumn Festival, moon cakes, and surfing the internet (with audio) 🍁🎂🌝
hace 5 añosThis September, my mom decided she wanted to make moon cakes. My mom's not Asian and she doesn't know any Asian languages... so finding a moon cake recipe presented some obstacles.
Sure, moon cake recipes are all over the internet. But are they really Moon Cake recipes? Let alone decent moon cake recipes? My mom's found all kinds of recipes online that are lousy. I'm sure you have, too.
I eventually asked my students for help, and they were thrilled to offer up great recipes. And my mom made her first moon cakes! She made some with whole egg yolks and some with chocolate (for me :)
I wish I had some pictures, but we ate them up before either of us thought of photos. But here's an idea of what they looked like (to be fair, we didn't have the right pan, so ours didn't have the embossing).
All of which is to say, it can be really tough finding reliable info online. Especially when it's not in a language or culture you know. I've seen appallingly bad English stuff online. Spelling mistakes, rotten grammar, totally wrong info.
What can you do? Hone your English... so you can surf the internet like a pro.
