Benefits of Learning a Language - Nelson Mandela quote

Nelson Mandela said, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart."

Thoughts? Do you find a difference in speaking with someone in a language you both speak as opposed to that person's native language?
