Christmas Holidays are coming!
Would you like to learn more about the Holiday season in Russian speaking countries?
Most people in Russian speaking countries are Christian.
But unlike most countries in Europe, or North and South Americas, where Catholic or Protestant beliefs are prevalent, most people in Russian speaking countries are Christian Orthodox.
What does it mean?
The thing is, that the dates of the Orthodox calendar differ from the Catholic or Protestant calendar.
Including the day of Christmas.
In Orthodox tradition, Christmas is celebrated on the night from January, 6 to January, 7. And though there are Catholics in Russian speaking countries who celebrate Christmas on December, 25th, for most people, December, 25 is quite a regular day.
At the same time, Christmas in Russian speaking countries in general seems to be much less celebrated than New Year, and New Year is the biggest holiday of the year for many people.
