American English Proverbs - 3
5년 전 A leopard can’t change its spots
(A person cannot change his or her basic character once it has been formed)
Read this dialogue to see an example:
- Bruce, I am at my wits’ end. I don’t know what to do about having Rebecca clean up her room.
- Didn’t she promise to tidy it up this afternoon?
- She did. And look at it. It’s still a mess! I can’t and won’t keep picking up after her.
- It looks like a leopard cannot change its spots. No matter what we do, she won’t keep her room in order.
- Please don’t expect me to believe that her habits are already formed and she can’t change them. She’s too young for that.
- OK. I’ll have a talk with her and see what I can do.
- Good luck. But I bet you won’t get her to change her much.
Activities:
1.- Try to use it in context telling your own anecdote or making up a short dialgue like this one.
2.- Can you think of an equivalent proverb in any other language?
