6 年前Recently I was in the middle of a conversation in English and I thought that the Spanish saying “agua que no has de beber, déjala correr” would be the perfect closing line for winning my argument.
I tried to translate it directly but nobody understood and I ended up making a fool (ish) of myself. The translation I was thinking was something along, the lines of “the water that you wont drink, you shall let it run” (i know, nice try) but later i learnt that the most appropriate translation is “don’t be a dog in the manger”
I would have never came up to this expression by myself. Do you guys find it difficult or exciting to learn all the weird and wonderful expressions and different grammar structures of the second or third language you are trying to get a grasp on?
