数学:Math in Chinese

5 年前
MULTIPLICATION 乘
乘 means "to multiply" and 乘以 means "to multiply by"/"multiply with". When expressing a math equation, we say "times" to say that we are multiplying numbers. For example, 4 TIMES 5 equals 20 (4 x 5 =20) = 四乘以五等于二十. The "x" in the equation 4 x 5 means "times" or "multiplied by". So in conclusion, "4 times 5 equals 20" is the proper phrase.

DIVISION 除
除 means "to divide" and 除以 means "to divide by" or "to divide with". So we say 4/2 as "4 DIVIDED by 2 equals 2" = 四除以二等于二。

These are just a few examples of how to do math in Chinese. I will post a second part about addition and subtraction.
