Cześć! Are you familiar with the Kraków’s nativity scene tradition?

4 年前
This week I have another news for you from the Polski Daily website! If you’re interested in learning more about Polish language and culture, you can sign up for weekly newsletters here: polskidaily.eu!

From 1937 the city of Kraków has been organising a competition for the most beautiful nativity scene – in the Main Market Square of the city, at the bottom of the monument of Adam Mickiewicz. From 1946, the competition is organised by the Historical Museum. This year it’s the 78th edition and it starts now, for the very first time in the history – online.
From 2014 the Kraków’s tradition of the nativity scenes has been on the list of the National list of the immaterial cultural heritage, and from 2018, it was inscribed on the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as the very first Polish „thing” there.
And from November 25th on Netflix you can see the movie The Christmas Chronicles 2, to which one of the last year’s winners – the nativity scene straight from Kraków, has been borrowed!
Kraków’s „szopki” (the nativity scenes) are so beautiful – check them out!

Cheers!
