Keeping motivated while learning a language

One of my students and I were having a discussion the other day about how to keep motivated when learning any language as they felt that they had reached a level and were not progressing.
I explained that he had hit a plateau ( an area of flat progression) where they felt that were not gaining skills, but as I explained, from my perspective he was increasing in fluency dramatically. The idea is that he had learnt many new skills and was practicing them, moving the skills from a passive, newly learnt skill-set to an active, I skill-set that they can use without thinking.
This kind of learning progression is common with language and I love to discuss this with my students and help them see the amazing progress that we are making!
Remember that learning any language is a journey, and it takes time to get from novice to fluent, so we may as well enjoy the process.
