Make, connect each other

This picture shows one of the earliest documents announcing the purpose of the Korean alphabet, hangul. It is written in the original Korean alphabet. Hangul was created by King Se-Jong in order to help his illiterate commoners during the Jo-Seon dynasty. With the help of hangul, they no longer needed to suffer from not being able to write in Chinese.

"훈민정음" /hun-min-jung-eum/ : the name of the document

You might have seen this picture from the Korean Summit held in April 2018. It implies the two Koreas were derived from one root. It was designed in the hope of reunification between the two Koreas by featuring some of the original hangul in the picture.

"North and South Korea use the same language."

사맛디, /sa-mat-di/, the modern form of the original letter in the picture, circled in blue means "Connect each other" and the blue highlighted letter '' is representing the president of South Korea, Moon Jae-In(문).

"사맛디 means Connect each other."

맹가노니/mang-ga-no-ni/, the modern form of the original letter in the picture, circled in red means "Make" and the red highlighted letter '' is representing the leader of North Korea, Kim Jeong-Eun(김)

"맹가노니 means Make."

As a person who feels blessed to have the opportunity to teach the Korean language living abroad, I am happy to share this piece of history with anyone who loves learning Korean. Are you ready to 사맛디 with Korea? :)
