BRITISH CULTURE: ALPHABET (A)
5 years agoHi all!
I'm writing about British culture.
I thought a cool way to introduce some British culture into the Verbling community would be to work through the alphabet and talk about a topic for each letter.
So, for A we are focusing on.....
Accents
When people refer to British English, they are often referring to someone who speaks with “Received Pronunciation” or “RP” for short. RP is the type of accent one would hear spoken by a member of the Royal Family or a news reader on the BBC.
But the truth is there are lots of different accents in the UK. The sound of the English language and can vary depending on where you find yourself in the UK. There are distinctive accents to be found in different countries of the UK; Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. There are also vastly different sounding accents found in some cities and their surrounding areas such as Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool and London.
If you want to know what some of the different accents sound like check out this interactive map I found online. https://www.voices.com/voice-actors/accent/accent-map
