How are your classes?

Hi everyone,

Do classes follow an established framework with levels, timelines and materials? Or is it up to each individual teacher?
I just don't want to feel like we're winging it.

Thanks,

Hi! As it has already been said, it all depends on what your students want and/or need. For those who want more than conversation classes, I make them do a short evaluation on the first or second class to see what needs to be reviewed and what they already know pretty well. In addition to using CECR and/or ACTFL guidelines, I use a textbook that I like for specific levels, which helps me build a progression so that it is coherent and doesn't feel like a random combination of themes.

As Claudia said, I think we all plan our lessons according to our students' levels. For someone who is fluent and just doesn't want to forget, my lessons will be conversation based. As for my students who are beginners, I tend to focus on reading, followed by comprehension exercices, and speaking practice. I think we're all wondering if we're doing a good enough job, but I'm sure we, as teachers, can figure out the student's needs pretty easily!

Hello, I am very new to this as well. But I believe it goes according to your view of language learning and background to teaching itself. I do, however, follow the CEFr when planning my classes.
