This idiom comes from a great historical book called Shi Ji(《史记》) by Sima Qian in Western Han Dynasty which is the first general historical book in Chinese history，this idiom shows the importance of love and friendly attitude between brothers in a family .it means that the elder brother treats his younger brother friendly,and the younger brother shows his respect in return.

友：friendly
