English and Comic books

Hello Students and Teachers,

Have you ever taught or learned a lesson with a comic book?
In school, I loved to learn using comics. The stories were always super interesting. The pictures are even better!

I actually had so much fun in my last class teaching English using a comic. I found a popular 3rd party comic site, cited the comic and used it in a lesson.

The English is short and simple, it is easy to understand because of the pictures. Students can learn the emotions, ideas, and enjoy a story all at once.

For more fun, my advanced students answer comprehension questions as they read. They have even written a comic or story for a future lesson.

Does anyone else do this? What do you think?

Greetings Sarah,
Thank you very much for sharing your teaching experience. I have never used comic books to teach a language, but it proves to be a very valuable learning tool, from reading your post. I personally enjoyed reading comic books for relaxation and enjoyment. I will keep this in mind.
Have a wonderful week teaching English!

It's great to try new methods. Mix things up once in a while. I am excited to hear how a comic lesson goes for you.

I've never used comic books in the classroom but I think it's a great idea. I can think of a couple that should have broad appeal: Saga and The Silver Surfer.
