English Pronunciation Tips: Relax your throat; Use your tongue
5 years agoHi everyone, I hope you are doing well lately. I want to share some tips with you on how to improve your English pronunciation skills (specifically for Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and other Asian language speakers).
When speaking Mandarin (普通话), it is normal to use your throat and gut to change your speaking tone (声调); however, we don't do this when speaking English. Try to relax your throat muscles and tongue, and practice biting your teeth together to pronounce the English "R" sound when you begin studying English. "Red, ready, road." Just relax your throat muscles- this will make a huge difference in your pronunciation.
For both Chinese and Japanese speakers, practice lightly pressing your tongue to the back of your teeth to pronounce the "L" and "N" sounds. "Alana" is a common name and the word "analog" is an easy word to practice using your tongue more freely. These two sounds are commonly mispronounced by Chinese and Japanese speakers, so please be careful!
Remember, (1) RELAX your throat, (2) USE your tongue, and (3) BITE your teeth. Good luck everyone.
Teachers, let's continue sharing tips and tricks. I love reading your posts :)
