Language enthusiasts of Verbling: What language would you choose to be the 'Lingua Franca'/world language, and why?

Currently English is the a common means a common means of communication for speakers of different first languages, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the best choice. I certainly wouldn't chose English myself, because as someone once said "English is not a language, it's three languages wearing a trench coat pretending to be one."

I would personally chose Esperanto for it's simple grammar, or Hungarian, as it is completely phonetic and highly expressive. If given the chance to start over, which language would you choose to be the main language of the world?

I would pick French of course because it is extremely precise and expressive.

I am glad that it’s not Italian. I would hate that people mess up my native language like we do with English using it as a lingua franca. I think that native English speaker must suffer seeing their language mistreated by the global community who mostly speaks and writes some kind of pidgin language.

If I would seriously consider the issue, I would choose Spanish or Arabic, the two languages I am learning right now. I find them both beautiful. But again, people should do their best and not mistreat those languages.

I see where you're coming from Aliph, but I believe that it's the flexibility of English that made and certainly keeps it as the lingua franca! However, the development of language technology could certainly change that in the future.
