I've always enjoyed Asian Culture from a young age, and around middle school I was very interested in Japanese cartoons. I studied Japanese but then in university I took an Asian History Course and thought about taking Chinese. My Dad told me Chinese is more practical to study then Chinese cause so many people speak it. So I tried to study both, and ended up advancing my Chinese more than Japanese. Now I would like to continue with my Chinese study, but learn more Japanese, and possible Korean as well. I think this will help me do research if I pursue a phd in the future, and as I travel.

It all started with a book I was reading about China, from a a Mexican author. Then I felt it would be interesting to learn about the Chinese characters. In the meantime, I picked up another book about Chinese Politics from Henry Kissinger... 突然我可以写汉字。我发现中国文化是很有意思。现在我感觉人们不了解中国文化,就不了解中国文化,反之亦然。我还需要学习更多,这只是开始了。

Hi Vivi,
I study Mandarin because my wish is to go to China someday to teach and live. I find the language and culture to be unique and fascinating. I have only just begun but with patience I believe I will go far.

你好 Vivi, I would love to learn Chinese and I would love to be able to live in China for a while. Unfortunately, I can't. But there are many Chinese people here, in Spain, and I am more interested now because they seem all so hard-working and focused; they seem to be faithful to their traditions and yet they seem to adapt to other countries and cultures and learn fast. I am starting to teach English to Chinese kids on-line and it is a great experience. I would like to interact with Chinese people (adults) but it seems awfully difficult!
