Quality Conversations: High Value Learning Experiences
I coach to achieve high value language learning. I seek to improve the quality of your conversations. By creating an approach especially made for you, I work to enhance the experience of your target audiences.

A unique approach

My unique 3-step approach originates from Design Thinking, Product Management, and Lean Startup Thinking: define, validate, and iterate.
1) Define: Define your goals. Empathize, and understand you and your needs; generate ideas on how to accomplish your goals; and prototype an approach to achieving your goals.
2) Validate: Develop a means to accomplish your goals.
3) Iterate: Repeat the process based on what we have learned.
The 3-step process entails.

1) Define: Define your goals.

I seek to understand you, who you are, what you have done, and what you are doing now. I seek to understand your needs. I allow you to talk. As I learn about you I share my findings in real-time, in order to confirm.
I tell stories to define and clarify your passions and challenges. Conversations, however, are the most engaging. Together we define the goal. Through conversation we determine which elements you want in your learning experience. I adjust to maximize the value that I deliver.

Powerful questions

I ask open-ended questions and then listen. Provocative questions encourage you to clarify, act, and discover. By experiencing powerful questions you learn not only about English, but also about collaboration, connection, and the design of great experiences. Ultimately this is the purpose of human languages.
It is useful to view your challenges from new angles. Skillfully posed questions can make you aware of previously unknown possibilities. Such questions help to illuminate other perspectives in your story. Through this I acquire an understanding of you and your needs, including the passions you are trying to realize.

The power of narrative

Stories are extremely important, and I want to help you to craft your own. The most powerful stories appeal to universal human needs, drives, emotions, and experiences. We all relate to the desire for freedom, recognition, connection, and love.

Human connection

Ultimately, however, the goal of both story and conversation is human connection. This requires moving from talking ABOUT stuff and beginning to focus on what’s happening between two people, right now, in the moment. This method develops strong connections between people. You will find this incredibly valuable both professionally and personally.

2) Validate: Develop a means to accomplish your goals.

I customize each conversational lesson to your current needs. In the lesson we test the best lesson formats that we identified. During the session I make refinements. I use your feedback to refine or redefine one or more of your immediate goals.
My lessons typically fall into 3 primary categories: career advancement, test taking (TOEFL or IELTS), and everyday usage. In each lesson I help you with your grammar, syntax, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
Here are some examples of past lessons which were focused on professional career advancement.

Intelligent conversation skills, both face-to-face and telephonic

Story-based sales presentations and sales pitches

Writing skills: essays, emails, cover letters

High level discussions, both business and technical

Successful interviewing and negotiation strategies

3) Iterate: Repeat the process based on what we have learned.

Feedback acquired during the validate stage reveals new insights about you and me, which always leads to the development of new, higher value learning experiences.

The Takeaway

My process is iterative, flexible and focused on collaboration. The process depends on how you and I think, feel and behave.
In short, my aim is to help you to improve the quality of your conversations. To achieve this I prepare each lesson with a very simple 3 step process: define, validate, and iterate.
If this process resonates with you, please feel free to send me a message.
