5 Email phrases to avoid
It can be frustrating when we don’t receive emails as soon as we need. Most people send a follow up email letting their colleague know they are (im)patiently waiting. However, it can often come across as annoying or at worst, passive aggressive.
According to a survey in 2018, Adobe identified the top 5 most annoying email phrases. You might think twice about using the following!
1. “Not sure if you saw my last email…”
2. “Per my last email/ our conversation”
3. “Any update on this?”
4. “Sorry for the double email”
5. “As previously stated/ mentioned”
Guilty!?
Instead, try simply stating your point again without any passive aggressive language. You can repeat your question without mentioning that you have already sent or shared the information. Try not to leave hints of your frustration that they might not have looked or responded to your email. Emphasising that you are reminding people of something will only create a sour atmosphere. It certainly won’t speed up a response and may sound passive aggressive.
Adding extra information can soften your repeated request and give the recipient a reason to reply.
