How to start speaking Italian from the very first day! The first 30 Italian words to be learnt!

Speaking in a new language is the biggest challenge you face when you study it … it's usually a bit hard to win the fear, especially at the beginning and the very first step, your very first conversation is the hardest! Then the fear of talking in that language will decrease step by step. At the same time, the best way to learn a language is by trying to speak from the very beginning.

With this article, I would like to help you speak your very first sentences in Italian!! Yes, even if you know nothing about Italian language, you will be surprised how you will be able to say ( on your own ) many sentences at the end of this article! The method that I am going to explain, can be used in any language ( not only Italian ), but since I am a teacher of Italian language, I will explain how I use this method with my students.

I have always suggested to my students not to worry about grammar too much at the beginning. The goal of this method is to talk as much as possible ( Even if you do that with some grammatical mistakes ). Then with time, you will improve and your mistakes will always be fewer and fewer.

As I said before, even if you know nothing about Italian language, you will be able to make many sentences at the end of this article but from where should you start? How can you start talking if you know nothing in Italian?

I suggest my students to learn 10 nouns, 10 verbs and 10 adjectives. If you do that, you can potentially create 1000 sentences!! Of course not all of these sentences would make sense, but 700 sentences would make it. Not bad as a beginning, right??

As you have seen, you have to learn a bit more than 30 words since you have to learn the pronouns and the conjugation of the verbs as well as, a small rule that you should know about adjectives :

Adjectives differ in the Italian language according to gender and number:-

1- Above, all the adjectives are written in singular masculine form, that's why they all end with "O",

2- If you want to do the feminine singular form, then replace the "O" with an "A".

For example :- Alta, bella, brutta, nera etc

3- If you want to do the masculine plural form, then replace the "O" with an "I"

For example :- Alti, belli, brutti, neri etc

4- If you want to do the feminine plural form, then replace the "O" with an "E"

For example :- Alte, belle, brutte, nere etc

It is a small rule and it is definitely possible to remember it!

I have chosen these words because I think they are useful and daily used, but feel free to replace them with other words which you think can be more suitable to you!

Let's see some examples of the sentences that you can do with these words!

1- L'uomo è alto. ( the man is tall )

2- Il bambino mangia il panino. ( the child eats the sandwich )

3- La città diventa bella. ( The city becomes beautiful )

4- La macchina è nera ( The car is black)

As you can see, it's possible to create many other sentences. Now the last thing I want to say is: take advantage of every opportunity and use these sentences! It can be the first step towards your goal to speak Italian. Don't let your fear of making mistakes or your worry about grammar stop you from reaching your goal and from speaking Italian!

I wish you all GOOD LUCK!
