About Me

[use coupon artwinter25 to get 15% off a package] Hi, my name's Art, I started teaching ESL 39 years ago in Salamanca Spain, then continued part-time while also teaching Spanish as a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University where I received an M.A. in Hispanic Literature in 1988. I left another career about 13 years ago when my Venezuelan wife and I moved back to her home country, and there I also happily returned to my first career of teaching ESL. I began teaching a course at the university level at the Universidad Arturo Michelena, but then realized I felt called to tutoring one student at a time. Many of my students were/are preparing for TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, NATO, or Trinity exams etc., so I have experience helping there. In addition I have helped some students preparing to take the test to become a U.S. citizen. I did 3 modules with the ICAL TEFL institute based in London towards certification in TEFL. The rest of their course dealt with classroom, small group, and pairs work, things that are not relevant to one on one tutoring. If you want to know my qualifications, I suggest reading the comments of my students. They are the best judges of tutor quality. If you need help with exam preparation, CV editing, job interviews, pronunciation, presentations, conversation, grammar,--or even the exam to become a US citizen, etc. I'd be glad to help. Best of luck to you in your English studies, and remember never get discouraged! The key is hard work, lots of patience and determination. Cheers!

My trial lessons

I usually just ask a lot of questions so I can get a feel for how your English is... and how I might be able to help you. Of course I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

Arthur knew I have something to discuss in class, but it doesn't makes him thought the class was already prepared. He brought 3 more different options and asked me at the beginning what I prefer. He found some articles from a theme he knows I study and it was amazing because I can compare that article that is from a reliable site with my studies. I really appreciated it.
