About Me
こんにちはー!
ようこそ、私の日本語クラスへ!
Hello, welcome to my Japanese language course!
I’m from Yokohama, one of the biggest cities in Japan, located on Tokyo Bay just South of Tokyo, so I speak and teach Tokyo dialect, also known as standard dialect.
My major was English language and literature and I did my graduate thesis on intercultural communications. I also took ESL courses with several different professors over the years so I understand how hard it is to study different languages and I know what works.
My methodology on language learning is a combination of immersive and traditional learning. The Japanese language requires a great amount of effort to master, but it becomes far easier if you use the language colloquially first, as children do. Language is like a jigsaw puzzle; it will become easier as you fill it in. I will help you learn through conversation, textbooks, and roleplay. I also can adjust to your individual needs and preferences.
I worked for a Japanese travel company in Tokyo for 5 years after college and moved to NY in 2015, working for their NYC branch for the past 6 years. I love traveling and learning about different cultures, languages, and different ways of experiencing life. I hope I can be your cultural bridge to my home country, Japan. It is a beautiful country full of kind people and unique history and culture. I have made this cultural bridge my life’s work and I hope you can share my passion.
I can help you get from whatever level you are starting at to whatever level you’d like to get to, whether you are just trying to learn survival Japanese for an upcoming vacation or business trip, or are looking for a more serious and deep knowledge and familiarity with Nihongo, the Japanese Language. I have a flexible schedule so don’t be shy, please reach out.

My experience with Anna-sensei has been really great so far! Her lesson materials are catered to my interests (she included some of my favorite anime into one of our lessons as a surprise ^^) and pace (when I told her I was self-studying hiragana, she made sure to change our lessons a bit so we weren't wasting time by going over things I already reviewed) and I love that her material is circular and/or draws on older lessons to reinforce what's been covered so far! One of the more enjoyable parts of our lessons are the parts where we sidetrack a bit and talk a bit about Japanese culture or Japanese-adjacent things.
I look forward to continuing my lessons with Anna-sensei! :3

This is a really great tutor for Japanese! She doesn't get frustrated if you mess up and helps you take your time on whatever part you're learning. I'm personally on beginner level and she works great for me. Would recommend.
