Have you ever thought about learning a foreign language that sounds beautiful, that is spoken by millions of people, and that is rich in history and culture? You can't get this wrong with Portuguese! In this article, I will list 3 reasons why you should learn Portuguese. Bora lá!
- Portuguese is spoken by approximately 215 million people!
Portuguese is the official language of Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique, Angola, and many other countries! If you want to connect with people from these countries, or even visit these places as a tourist, knowing Portuguese is definitely a way to enjoy your trip without big misunderstandings.
- Portuguese will help you master other languages.
If your goal is to become a polyglot, Portuguese is a romance language that has a lot of similarities with Spanish, Italian, and even French. If you already speak any of these languages, learning Portuguese won't be that hard, and you can train your brain into not mixing up all these languages. Besides that, Portuguese is a language that has an array of both consonant and vowel sounds that can help you master different sounds of many languages. For example, Portuguese and Slavic languages share many similar sounds, especially the "r" and consonant clusters like "pr" and "gr" (but of course, Portuguese and Russian, for instance, are very different languages!)
- The Portuguese language has fascinating art and culture.
There are several books, poems, and songs that were written in Portuguese and that nowadays are well known all over the world. Knowing Portuguese can help you thoroughly appreciate different musical genres, poems, and other kinds of written art. That way, you do not have to only appreciate the rhythm or the melody of a song, for example. Knowing Portuguese enables to understand the lyrics, and the whole poetry behind each stanza.
