The Preposition "To"
Hello Verbling community! My name is David and this is my grammar tip for today! I will discuss the preposition to. There are 3 main ways to use the preposition to.
1. to + verb This is called the infinitive.
- I like to eat pizza.
- I want to buy a new hat.
2. toward something or someone
- Give this pen to him.
- I sent an email to Kate.
3. go + to + place
- Jessie goes to work every day.
- Jen and Alice go to the market on Sundays.
* In most cases we “go to” a place. There are some exceptions like “home” and the “here” words. The “here” words are: “here, there, everywhere, somewhere, and nowhere."
- After school I want to go home. (Not go to home)
- Let’s go there for dinner. (Not let’s go to there)
