Hello!
I am excited to join you at Verbling!
First I will tell you a bit about my academic background and tutoring experience. I have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology. I have also worked as a tutor for a number of years. I have loved tutoring in all subjects up to the college level. My favorite subject to teach has always been English. I enjoy helping with writing, developing conversational skills, and improving reading. I have worked with a number of ESL students from various countries including Japan, Korea, Brazil, Spain, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. It has been a joy to conduct these lessons with my students, and I look forward to all the future ones to come!
Now about my teaching style. :)
If I had to use one word to describe my teaching style it would be ENCOURAGING. I love to give praise and always focus on growth. I also love to promote taking positive risks and trying new things, even though they may seem scary at first.
In the past I have used a conversations textbook to structure my lessons. Through this method I have been able to facilitate deep conversations between myself and the student. At the same time I have been able to listen for sentence structure, grammar and pronunciation, and make corrections where necessary. My students tend to enjoy the topics and usually have a lot to say, which is always welcomed!
I am also happy to focus on specific areas where the student is looking to grow. For instance maybe a lesson on proper sentence structure, reading comprehension, drafting letters, general writing, and presenting out loud.
Whatever your English language learning need is, I am here to help you find it and attend to it together, until you feel confident and comfortable in that area.
That said, I hope to see you in the class very soon!
Mariam
