About Me

السلام عليكم، وأهلا ومرحبا بكم
I am a certified native Arabic teacher with more than ten years of experience in university and language school settings. I hold a BA in English language and literature from the University of Aleppo, Syria, and a MA in English language teaching from the University of Warwick, England. Moreover, I taught English for eight years at the University of Aleppo, where I also worked as a teacher trainer, preparing prospective English teachers. I also participated in updating and improving the teaching materials in the university language school. "Abdulwahed makes teaching materials of publishable quality." Rod Revell, personal tutor, the University of Warwick, 2004.
My success in teaching English was instrumental in developing my innovative approach to Arabic teaching. I taught Arabic in Istanbul for 4 years. Currently I am teaching Arabic online full time. My journey as an Arabic teacher, however, started back in 2004 when I did private Arabic tuition in Oxford city, England, for four months.
In today’s highly competitive education market, the teachers who thrive are the ones who can promise and deliver high levels of Student Talking Time. Students don't want to pay lesson fees to listen to the teacher talk. They can do this at home for free. I boast at least 60 % Student Talking Time. My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that language skills need to be recycled many times before they are acquired, and that students should be encouraged to figure out grammar rules for themselves. With beginners I also employ the audio visual method, where students are immersed in the language. It's like learning Arabic the way you learned your first language. I don't view language as being learnt through mechanical exercise; it's rather developed through students interacting and engaging. I encourage students to be self-learners and believe that learning a language can indeed be fun and not all about grammar, vocabulary and mistakes.
