About Me

Hello, I am Alison and I am a fully qualified teacher of English as a Foreign/Second Language. How would you like to improve your English? With over twenty years teaching experience at every level (beginners to advanced) and every age group, I know how to help you. I have a postgraduate Royal Society of Arts Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (equivalent to the DELTA) and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from Greenwich University.

You will enjoy learning English with me - the first thing we will do is discuss why you want to learn, how you like to learn and what your interests are. We will then plan a programme together starting with what you already know and building on that basis. I can help you whether you want help with conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading, writing or Citizenship.

I have taught students from all over the world and at every level including those who speak no English and don't read and write any language (including their own) to those who need English because they are studying at university in the UK, or need help with job applications, or to write reports at work. I have helped many students pass exams such as Cambridge First Certificate, City and Guilds, B1, the Life in the UK test, and to improve their IELTS banding.

My teaching experience began at the British Council in Hong Kong where I worked for two years. I then worked with Vietnamese refugees who had just arrived in the UK, and since then I have worked in private language schools such as St Giles in London and in the Adult and Community Learning sector in London and currently in West Sussex. I help deliver and mark City and Guilds ESOL exams in my current position.

I love teaching and helping people to meet their goals. Please get in touch and we will go from there.
