About Me
I'm Suzan Severo, an English and Portuguese Teacher from Brazil. I have a degree in Languages at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. I'm a specialist in teaching and learning foreign languages processes and I hold a Master's degree in Linguistics. My research was about digital technology applied to teaching and learning foreign languages processes.
I've been teaching Portuguese and English as a foreign language for more than 10 years now. My classes are based on the communicative approach but I've worked with different approaches and methodologies so I can easily adapt the lessons accordingly to the learner's necessities and learning style.
If you want to speak Portuguese with confidence, I can give you the tools you need which are Grammar, Vocabulary, and Pronunciation. I think it is important to provide engaging contexts for learning the language, so I like to use real-life situations but I also work with songs, videos, humor, and suspense.
My students describe me as a considerate, empathetic teacher. I just love learning and teaching languages!

Suzan is a gifted teacher who is deeply invested in her students' success. I started lessons with her in November, and in January I took a solo road trip in Brazil where I felt confident enough in Portuguese to protest a toll booth ticket! Some of my favorite things about her style: 1) she is lots of fun, but won't let you get away with using Spanish to cover up your bad Portuguese! She will correct you, but it's subtle, so that you feel comfortable speaking freely but are constantly improving. 2) we learn by connecting with real Brazilian culture -- I have been introduced to so much amazing music and literature thanks to Suzan's lessons. 3) Nothing is "by the book" - Suzan finds all kinds of cool resources and designs exercises just for you. As a language teacher myself, I highly recommend lessons with Suzan!
