About Me
*** Unfortunately, I can't offer lessons to complete beginners at the moment ***
Hello,
thank you for viewing my profile. My name is Kay and I give German lessons online.
I have experience teaching German and English to German natives and to foreigners. I also have experience writing and editing texts for publication, and I have corrected many texts written by non-native German speakers on a different language learning website. I can speak English fluently, so I am able to explain finer points of German in that language as well.
I have worked with children deemed "difficult" by others, but I have learned that those labels do not matter and instead try to keep an open mind with every new student and try to help them in their unique situation. I am supportive and easy-going. I am flexible in the way I correct (few or many corrections) and the topics we talk about. I can and do explain grammar, but I'd prefer not to give a grammar lesson and monologue for one hour. I like when my students know what they want and what their goal is, because then I can help them in the best and most efficient way.
I am interested in a variety of topics: I like sports, culture, food, entertainment, reading, and much more. I like travelling and getting to know new countries, new people, and new cultures. I am currently learning Spanish in order to travel to Spain for an extended period of time.

I have had roughly 100 lessons with Kay and without a doubt, he is one of the best German teachers on this platform.
Firstly, he is incredibly good at explaining complicated German grammar. Since my mother tongue is Japanese and Japanese is completely different from western languages, it is really challenging for me to understand German grammar.
However, he tries to explain it to me patiently and in various ways such as basic explanations, comparison with English grammar, making tailor made explanatory notes for me, explaining German grammar from historical origins of its language and so on.
He never gives up until I understand. If he can't answer my question in his class ( Generally, he can answer my question instantly when I ask, though),
he researches the answer to my question after the lesson and in the end, he gives me a logical, non-instinctive answer so that non-native speakers can understand easily.
Secondly, he is familiar with online tools. He makes web notes so that I can review his lessons easily. We also use movies, worksheets and other materials. But I've never felt stress with him. Everything is very smooth and efficient. I don't feel any disadvantages of online lessons with him.
Thirdly, he has a passion for teaching German and helping students. He is constantly trying to find the best way of maximizing the effect of his lessons.
He doesn't stick to one method. He is really open to changing the way he teaches lessons and improving his method according to students' wants and needs.
I can recommend him to all levels of students who are learning German and I'm really happy to work on German with such an invaluable teacher.

It's been a pleasure working with Kay to improve my spoken German! Our conversations are enjoyable and interesting. We work on not only grammar but pronounciation as well! During each lesson Kay corrects my grammar both orally and in writting. This is a very effective teaching method. I'm very grateful to Kay for all of his help. I feel much more confident with spoken German.
