About Me
Hallo! My name is Chantal Schmidt and I have been a German tutor online and in person for more than 3 years now! I possess a bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma in German and English and am currently studying International Business Law in Hamburg, Germany.
I was born in Hong Kong to a German father and a Filipina mother, which is why I was raised to speak both English and German on a native level. When I moved to Germany at 5 years old, however, I was considered a foreigner and thus had to be enrolled in German classes. Therefore I have experienced two very different language learning routes: organically picking it up from your surroundings and actively studying it. This has given me an in-depth understanding of, not just German grammar rules, but also the psychology of learning a language!. Additionally, I studied French and Spanish, which is why I know exactly what it's like to be a student struggling to adjust and stay motivated. I know what works and what doesn't, as I've experienced it myself firsthand.
My teaching philosophy is that each lesson symbolizes a lego building block: With each block, you can build a taller tower and with each lesson you can build longer sentences. For each student I curate a personalized learning plan, because I believe in working smarter, not harder. Above all, I want my students to make the most out of their time and money. That is why most of my beginner students achieve conversational speaking skills within a month and are able to comfortable take on their A1 exams.

A trial lesson with me entails getting to know my teaching style and philosophy. It also allows me to curate a personalized learning plan for you, which works almost like a checklist, so you'll be able to keep track of your progress, while also envisioning the upcoming lessons. You'll quickly notice that my lessons are very goal oriented and you'll be able to walk away after each lesson, knowing something new.
