Differences between GRAN and GRANDE… When to use those?
In the Spanish learning process students get confused about when they can use ‘Gran’ and when they can use ‘Grande’.
A simple rule is going to make your Spanish communication easier though.
The main rule:
- Gran: always is used before noun.
-Grande: always is used after noun (as a usual practice when we use the adjectives in Spanish).
Be careful! Those words looks similar but it doesn’t.
- Gran means important, remarkable, noble, dignified.
* Grande means the opposite to small size.
For example:
“Gandhi era un gran hombre (important man), pero no era un hombre grande” (not too tall – slim person).
“El libro ‘El principito’ no tiene mucho más de 100 páginas, obviamente no es un libro grande (not big). Pero si lo leíste de seguro sabes que es un gran libro (remarkable book).”
I hope you have learnt something new and don't forget to put it in practice!
See you on Verbling in my Spanish lesson!
