Flipped Learning For English Language
We’ve all heard about “blended learning” which uses several digital learning sources… it’s kind of like self-directed learning.
Flipped learning is so much more… flipped learning uses pre-class lesson work which is the part of the lesson the student completes prior to the live session with the trainer or coach.
This frees up the live session time with the trainer/coach to review the pre-work, practice using the language learned and then have time to have a good question and answer session at the end of the live session.
Instead of using the live training session to learn the material… a flipped lesson allows the student to review and complete the pre-lesson work and then review and practice the lesson material in the live session.
Here’s 4 important points to consider:
- The trick to a successful “flipped learning” session is having high-quality pre-class material that the students can complete.
- Another important point is that this allows for bite-sized lesson material that the student can complete at any time prior to the live session. Generally, the student will have between 2 to 7 days prior to the live session to complete the pre-class material.
- The student can also ask questions about the pre-class material via email or via SKYPE or another communication service before the live session.
- Instead of the trainer/coach having to “deliver” the material at the beginning of the live session, the student has time prior to the live session to review and complete all or most of the pre-class material.
The flipped classroom empowers and motivates the student to become more involved in their learning path by completing the “pre-class” material prior to the live session with the trainer/coach.
