What are the top three qualities a person has to have in order to be a successful leader of a country?

I believe a successful leader should be an effective communicator, trustworthy and intelligent.  Without these three fundamental qualities, I don't personally think they will have the unconditional backing of their citizens.

That would be an ideal leader. Unfortunately, our perception of those three qualities is so subjective that a candidate running for the President's seat might be wrongly perceived as an effective communicator, trustworthy and intelligent by a majority of citizens, get voted and be elected as President - someone who can fool people into believing that he is those three things but being, actually, a most effective manipulator.
