„DOAR” vs. „DECÂT”

Azi vreau să vă învăț ceva foarte important.
(Today I want to teach you something very important.)
Este vorba despre diferența dintre „doar” și „decât”.
(It is about the difference between ”doar” and ”decât”. )
Amândouă exprimă ideea de „only”.
(Both of them express the idea of ”only”. )
Dar, „doar” se folosește cu verbe la afirmativ și „decât” cu verbe la negativ.
(But ”doar” is used with affirmative verbs and ”decât” with negative verbs. ”Decât” can be translated as ~nothing but~)
De exemplu: (For example:)
1.Acea persoană înțelege doar engleză.
That person only understands English.
あの人は英語だけ分かります。
2.Acea persoană nu înțelege decât engleză.
That person doesn't understand any language but English.
あの人は英語しか分かりません。

Salutări Maria-Camelia, when I hear Romanian I find it very obscure - I can't differentiate many words. But when I read what you wrote here, I realize how similar it is to Spanish and, well, to Latin. I knew that, but since the phonetics are so different, I couldn't tell. So, thank you for writing a few sentences here. Interesting!
