It’s Polish Popcorn!

This week I have another piece of news for you from the Polski Daily!
Broad bean (or under another name - fava bean) is a vegetable all Poles seem to love and I must admit I don’t think it is eaten in that amount in any other country I know. Broad beans is also very popular in the Middle East, but usually it’s eaten there in a form of this kind of goulash (named foul) or cooked, mashed and formed into falafels. Poles on the other hand eat the broad beans kind of like they eat popcorn – straight from the bowl, bean after bean, while they’re watching a movie or reading a book!
In its simplest form, we boil broad beans in salty water until the skin on the beans cracks open and it’s all soft and squashy inside. The whole kitchen smells terribly when you’re cooking it, a bit like when you’re boiling the cauliflower!
And a new method, that made Poles go crazy this year is roasted broad beans! You put it on the dry pan, roast it for a couple of minutes, until the skins of the beans start to burst open and they become golden. Then you add some salt, olive oil and some paprika powder (or - if you prefer – you can add some finly chopped garlic), you mix it all nicely and fry it for approximately 15 / 20 minutes. After this time, beans should be golden brown, the skins should easily peel off and most of call – they should be super delicious!
This dish is so finger licking, if you only have access to broad beans, I highly recommend it to you! Cheers! Dominika
