Should you take a diagnostic test? Yes, you should!
You have enrolled in a new course, and go to your first lesson. Your instructor tells you that before moving forward, they would like you to take a diagnostic test. WHAT??
Many students freeze up anytime the word "test" is mentioned. It is common to get nervous when taking an exam, no matter what the subject is. However, as much as we shun tests, it is a necessary evil. Especially when you are paying for private lessons. Consider some of the following benefits from taking a diagnostic test:
- Both you and the instructor will know your knowledge level on the subject
- It saves time, allowing you and the instructor to focus on what needs to get covered
- Your instructor can plan your lessons better, once they know what your strengths and opportunities are
- Most of all: IT SAVES YOU MONEY!!
Unlike regular exams: diagnostic tests are not usually graded--they are meant strictly to inform the teacher where the student stands with their knowledge of the subject. As a student, you may already have a full schedule: from working, to caring for a loved one, and plenty of activities in between. You cannot afford to throw both your time and money down the drain, and need your studies to be efficient. Help the instructor, help you the next time you are asked to take a diagnostic test.
