Special women !

Dear verblingers, as usual on the 8th of March, we celebrate women's day.
But how do we want to celebrate this day?
Personally, I would like to remember the women who worked to improve our countries and the society in which we live.
In this article I would like to mention an italian woman I really admire and who is an example for me as a teacher : Maria Montessori.
Maria Montessori was a teacher and a pedagogist who developed the well-known Montessori method. Maria got a degree in medicine. She later studied psychology and anthropology, specializing in child development. She started to work with kids with different types of disabilities and afterwards she extended her educational method to all children. Her method of education is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play.Creativity and freedom are very important in the learning process.
Maria was very active to motivate women to fight for their rights and earn the distinction as an equal gender. She also fought against child labour.
I really admire her because she dedicated her life to education in order to improve the society and to give a chance to every single child, starting from the children with disabilities who were often abandoned in hospitals losing the possibility to live a decent life. And you ? Which “special” woman would you mention ?
I'm looking forward to reading your comments and stories!
