I was born in Japan and studied in Canada and USA.
When I was studying music in LA, I learned Brazilian music and a couple of years later I went to Brazil and met my husband.
I didn't know how to speak Portuguese at that time, I only knew how to sing in Portuguese, but from the very first day of Brazil I learned how to have fun and communicate with people without knowing much of the theory and vocabulary. It was just like how people learn jazz. There's a theory behind, but the most importantly we should feel and improvise. And to understand the theory, you first should listen, listen and listen.
So my learning and teaching method can be a little unique. It's not like the traditional way that we all know, which you read, write, and listen to the explanations, instead, I want you to feel it.
It's important to study and understand the grammar and try to memorize as much vocabularies as you can, but you can't forget to have fun, and you can't memorize things by just reading and thinkin...

こんにちはー!
ようこそ、私の日本語クラスへ!
Hello, welcome to my Japanese language course!
I’m from Yokohama, one of the biggest cities in Japan, located on Tokyo Bay just South of Tokyo, so I speak and teach Tokyo dialect, also known as standard dialect.
My major was English language and literature and I did my graduate thesis on intercultural communications. I also took ESL courses with several different professors over the years so I understand how hard it is to study different languages and I know what works.
My methodology on language learning is a combination of immersive and traditional learning. The Japanese language requires a great amount of effort to master, but it becomes far easier if you use the language colloquially first, as children do. Language is like a jigsaw puzzle; it will become easier as you fill it in. I will help you learn through conversation, textbooks, and roleplay. I also can...

Hello! My name is Miwa, and my family home is on Sado Island, a small and beautiful island in Japan.
My father’s family has been rice farmers there for over 200 years. It’s a peaceful village where people live close to nature, helping each other with rice and vegetable farming. Every year, the community holds a traditional festival at the local shrine to pray for a good harvest—one of the traditions I treasure deeply.
Now I live in Auckland, New Zealand, where I experience very different cultures and values. Living abroad has deepened my appreciation for Japan, and I would love to share not only the Japanese language but also our daily life, culture, and values with you.
I have been teaching Japanese for over 7 years, working with both beginners and advanced learners from all over the world. I offer one-on-one lessons and group classes, and I always tailor lessons to each student’s level, interests, and goals. For beginners, I use my own original materials to make learning easy a...

Hi Japanese learners!
I am Chiaki,
I was born and grew up in Japan, I have lived in Australia for a year and lived in the UK for the last 5 years.
In the UK I gave private Japanese lessons to several British students.
I enjoyed time with my students so much that I wanted to start to teaching online to meet more people in different countries.
Have you ever experienced the situation where you have taken a phrase from a Japanese textbook and said it to a Japanese person and received only a confused look in response? Probably the reason is that textbooks tend to teach Japanese in an ultra-polite form.
Those basics are very important to know but you also need to know the casual way to say things, as native speakers do, to make conversations flow. This is also necessary to understand what Jap...
