My name is John Garlinghouse and I'm an English Teacher from the United States. I live in Bogota, Colombia and work at the Universidad Externado and I also teach English to mostly adult students. In 2017 I studied a CELTA course to improve my teaching, in particular regarding classes for adults. This experience has helped me to make my classes more dynamic so that the students learn in a relaxed setting while also having a good time. I speak Spanish but I prefer not to use Spanish in class unless it is absolutely necessary. My students range from adults working to improve their English for work to university students who need to prepare for exams. My class methodology depends on what the individual student is looking for, but in general my classes are focused on practical communication. I focus on skills that all students can benefit from, such as giving presentations, preparing for job interviews, writing cover letters, writing reports, using the phone, and the correct use of infor...

Hi! I'm Louise. I'm originally from Cambridge in the UK but since becoming a teacher in 2007 I have lived and worked in Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Romania where I currently live. I have a masters degree in anthropology and a Trinity CertTESOL from Trinity college London. I have taught all ages and levels and have also taught business English to corporate clients and I have extensive experience teaching exam English. I used to be an IELTS examiner and am very familiar with it. I have also prepared people for Cambridge exams, TOEFL, TOEIC anf PTE. With general English my main goal is to get learners to communicate. While I do work with vocabulary and grammer, I feel the best way to learn is through using the language. With this in mind we do a lot of work with speaking, writing and using authentic texts. Doing this will enable you to deal with a wide variety of situations. With exam English you will get a lot of practice for each part of the exam. I also try and incorpo...

I’m Jake, a native English teacher from the United Kingdom. I’m TEFL-qualified with advanced degrees in languages and translation, and have been teaching English for several years. I like to adjust my sessions to suit the needs of each individual student, to ensure that you get the most out of our time together. Whether you’re learning English for your IELTS or TOEFL exam, for your professional development, or simply out of a love of the language, we can create a plan together to reach those goals. A native British English speaker, I have been passionate about language learning since school. I studied Modern Languages at university in the UK, and continue to study Spanish, so understand the challenges of language learning from the student's perspective too. I did Cambridge CELTA teacher training at the end of 2016 (after years of informal teaching) and worked for two years in Colombia, with a wide variety of business, university, school and private students. Now back in the UK, I teach international learners of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and contexts. I love the variety of students and the breadth of teaching skills that entails. I have top qualifications and extensive experience, in general, business and academic English, as well as in Cambridge, IELTS and TOEFL international exams. Being a good teacher is all about working with the student to find the personalized way that most effectively helps them grow in confidence and achieve their goals. It’s about connecting...

Hello! My name is Ben. I am a TEFL-certified Native English Teacher with over 15 years experience. I taught in a classroom setting in South Korea for many years, and am now teaching on Verbling from my home in the United States. The most common kind of lesson plan I use includes: 1. Everyday English - We will ask each other common everyday English questions: "What time is it?", "What day is it today?", "How's the weather?", "What did you do today?" 2. Reading (+vocabulary, comprehension, and discussion) -We will take turns reading a book or news article. I have many different books and articles for all reading levels. 3. Conversation (topical or casual) - We will take turns asking each other questions about any topic, or we can just have an open conversation. We can incorporate writing, listening, spelling, dictation, travel English, exam practice, or interview preparation as needed. I look forward to meeting you! :)

Hi there! I'm Joss and I'm from the U.K. I offer structured classes that focus on finding and fixing any pronunciation or grammar mistakes while at the same encouraging my students to talk as much as possible. I also specialise in interview preparation and public speaking skills if you need additional help with that. The lessons themselves are normally very relaxed but also quite structured. I usually give interesting articles for homework and about half of the class is spent talking about the articles. For the rest of the class I do exercises to improve grammar mistakes or other mistakes that I find during the class and I also review new vocabulary and mistakes from the previous lessons. About me; I have a passion for travel and meeting new people. I studied international business at university and also worked in a number of start-ups. I've also worked as an English teacher for over 8 years. I have experience teaching business English to middle to top management teams...

I started teaching English in 2014 and have been teaching fulltime for 4 years on Verbling. Working with students from Apple and Google has been one of the highlights of my career. When taking a lesson with me we can work on your general fluency or we can target specific topics, for example, work related topics, that you need improve your speaking performance in. While discussing these topics your grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation will be improved through clear and consistent feedback and instruction, which will also improve your accuracy.
