About Me
Hello from sunny Sri Lanka! My name's Darren, I'm originally from Portsmouth, UK and I've been teaching English as a foreign language since 2007. I started in Prague, CZ, teaching business English and then Cambridge Exams PET/FCE. I then moved back to the UK to train international academic students for their IELTS exam. I started taking English seriously about 6 years ago. Like many adults who started learning this language at a quite late age, I knew that I can't waste the next few years on the things that don't matter in normal, daily communication.
I wanted to communicate effectively and overcome my fear of speaking. Yes, many of you who know me, won't believe that, but I'm a natural-born introvert (grew up in a family of extroverts but that's another story).
Over two years ago (after a 1-year English course and 3,5 years of individual classes with a polish tutor) I decided to take a step ahead and try lessons with a native speaker. After a few test lessons with different tutors, I met Darren Large who turned out to be the best of all teachers I've had a chance to work with.
Darren is always prepared, always on time, and what's also important - he's very versatile when it comes to topics potential students want to cover. Darren can help you with idiomatic expressions, slang, business English, or just prepare you for IELTS exams.
What I appreciate the most though is that Darren has a very interesting personality, and if you don't feel you have enough energy to do some exercises, you can always enjoy an hour just having good chat about the current world events, history, or culture.
If you're looking for someone who can help you to reach another English level, Darren is definitely a person I can recommend as long-term support.

I am so happy with the progress that I am having since I started to have classes with Darren. He has been an excellent teacher. He always prepares the material according to the skills that I need to improve.
